What is a doula?
A doula is a professionally trained woman who provides a continuous presence for emotional support, physical comfort, non-clinical advice, and guidance for the partner during labor and birth. A doula does not replace the important role of the partner, but enhances it. She also does not speak for the laboring couple, but provides them with the tools necessary to make their birth the positive and empowering experience the couple wants!
Doula Package:
Doula services include two or more prenatal visits, where we can get to know one another, discuss your birth plan and preferences, and may include some childbirth education, depending on your needs. I am then "on-call" 24 hrs per day for 10 days before and 10 days after your due date. You may call any time with questions and when you feel you may be in labor. I can visit you at your home during early labor if you wish or meet you at the hospital when you are in active labor.
I am present at the labor the entire time, and will assist the mom in position changes, relaxation techniques, keeping hydrated, and acting as liason for hospital staff or relatives. I am then available postpartum for breastfeeding help, and ensuring the mom has adequate support at home.
Why hire a doula?
FEES:
The rate for a full doula package is $500. Half the fee ($250) is due upon the contract signing so that your birth is made top priority. The remainder ($250) is due by 2 weeks prior to due date.
